Dr. Herbert Monroe, Division Superintendent

  • Dr. Monroe’s Message to the Surry County Public School Employees, Families, and Community!

I am truly honored to be appointed Superintendent of Schools for Surry County. This moment marks not just a personal milestone but a shared commitment to our collective mission and vision of providing a safe, healthy learning environment that prepares all students to be competitive and productive citizens in a highly technical and global society.

Together, we can catapult Surry County Public Schools (SCPS) onward and upward to the next level of greatness.  Teaching and Learning must be the core of what we do in SCPS as Education is The Great Equalizer! We will empower and value the next generation of LEARNERS, THINKERS, & LEADERS regardless of race, socio-economic status, gender, or disability as All students can and will learn.  We promise to do everything possible to ensure our scholars are 3-E READY, meaning upon graduation all students will be ENROLLED, ENLISTED, AND/OR EMPLOYED! This is our commitment to our students as we ensure they are successful in school and in life!

Over the next 90 days, I will be launching the Superintendent Entry Plan. The Superintendent Entry Plan is purposefully designed to cultivate effective relationships through open communication, create opportunities to understand Surry County Public Schools’ current state and desired future, and establish a strong school and community presence. The Transition, Entry, and Planning phases outline intentional leadership actions designed to: (1) build on current successes, (2) identify areas of opportunity and need, and (3) develop strategic plans for continued growth and innovation. I have partnered with Planforward, an educational consulting firm to Look, Listen, and Learn over the next 90 days through community engagement surveys, focus groups, one one-on-one meetings, and community meet and greets. I believe it is critical to interact with students, employees, parents, religious leaders, community partners, government officials, and the school board to ensure a collaborative culture of inclusiveness throughout the entry plan process.

Our Connection, Collaboration, and effective Communication “3C’s” will continue to make us the Successful, small but Mighty Surry Cougar Nation!

I look forward to engaging with all of you and the entire Surry community as we work towards achieving and exceeding our goals. Thank you for this incredible opportunity. Let’s embark on this journey together, committed to excellence in education for all.

    With Great Appreciation,

Dr. Monroe, Superintendent Surry County Public Schools
