How is a student referred to the Gifted Program?
- Surry County Public Schools has an open referral process for gifted education. Teachers, parents, students, and community members may refer a student for a gifted evaluation. The gifted coordinator for the student’s school should be contacted for further information concerning gifted referrals.
How do students apply to the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School?
- Around October 15th of each year, applications for the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School are available from the middle school guidance counselor. The application packet contains all information concerning the application process, including admission requirements and the adjudication process.
How does the Gifted Program provide off-site enrichment?
- The school division provides tuition assistance to students who desire to attend gifted programs outside of Surry County. The most frequently attended programs are the summer and Saturday programs at William and Mary and the summer residential program at the University of Virginia. The division provides assistance based on the availability of funds and the tuition rate at William and Mary and the University of Virginia. Currently, the division pays ½ of the tuition cost not to exceed $500 a year.
