Chrystal Rogers

  • Welcome to Third Grade!

Welcome! My name is Chrystal Rogers and I teach third grade at Surry Elementary School. This is my thirteenth year of teaching and my twelfth year of teaching third grade. I am a Surry native and graduated from Surry County High School in 1998. I attended Christopher Newport University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career with Newport News Public Schools where I taught for two years before returning home to Surry County. I am extremely excited to start the 2017-2018 school year. I also look forward to meeting all of my new students and parents that I will be working with this year. Third grade is a very exciting yet rigorous time for students. This is the first year students will take the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs). We work very hard all year to prepare for these tests that take place in May. We will have reading homework every night except for Friday. However, all students are expected to read at least 20 minutes daily. I will be teaching Language Arts this school year, Mr. Moody will be teaching Science and Social Studies, and Mrs. Savage will be teaching Math. Our classes will be switching between the three of us every day. I have an open door policy. Please feel free to come by my classroom at anytime. Also, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. I look forward to meeting and working with you this year.
