Surry County Public Schools proudly recognizes National School Counseling Week, celebrated February 2–6, 2026. This week highlights the vital role school counselors play as essential school mental health professionals who support student success, well-being, and growth.
Today’s school counselors are much more than “guidance counselors.” The profession has evolved into a comprehensive, data-informed practice focused on academic achievement, career readiness, and social/emotional development. Professional school counselors provide direct support to students while also working to remove systemic barriers to learning.
Across Virginia, school counselors are deeply committed to helping every student reach their full potential. They collaborate with educators, families, and community partners to cultivate school environments that promote healthy learning, living, and personal growth.
National School Counseling Week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the critical impact school counselors have on student success and our school communities. Surry County Public Schools extends sincere appreciation to our school counselors for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering support of our students. Thank you, Trinita Porter, Ashley Williams, and Mary Johnson for your dedication to our students and school community. Your impact makes a difference!
