Non-Resident Student Tuition Information

At its July 14, 2026, School Board Meeting, the Surry County School Board adopted Regulation JEC-R: School Admission, which establishes tuition requirements for out-of-county and out-of-state students who are approved to attend Surry County Public Schools (SCPS). The regulation will take effect for the 2027–2028 school year.

In accordance with Virginia Code § 22.1-5 and Surry County School Board Regulation JEC-R: School Admission, certain non-resident students who are approved for enrollment in Surry County Public Schools may be admitted and required to pay tuition.

The approved tuition rates for the 2027–2028 school year are:

  • Out-of-County Tuition: $4,200 per student

  • Out-of-State Tuition: $24,000 per student

The out-of-county tuition rate is calculated based on the local cost per student, consistent with the Code of Virginia and Surry County School Board policy. The out-of-state tuition rate reflects the projected total educational cost per student.

These tuition rates ensure that Surry County Public Schools continues to be a responsible steward of taxpayer resources while maintaining the high-quality educational programs and services provided to all students. Tuition must be paid in full prior to the first day of school each year.

As part of the Board's commitment to recruiting and retaining exceptional employees, tuition will be waived for students whose parent(s) are employed by Surry County Public Schools.
