Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are pleased to announce that once again, Luther Porter Jackson Middle School has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. A virtual start will bring some changes for the upcoming school year but rest assured that we are excited to tackle this new challenge of reaching your child from a distance. Our learning center will operate five days per week (Monday through Friday) for the 2020-2021 school year. Monday through Thursday will be academics, and Fridays will be reserved for enrichment and fitness activities. English and math tutoring will be offered all four days. Physical Science and Civics tutoring will be offered twice a week. Students must attend two (2) academic tutoring days in order to participate in Fun Friday. Tutoring will be open to students per the grant guidelines, which includes but are not limited to students who have been identified as needing additional academic support in math and English based on data or who would like to engage in more fitness activities. Upcoming events and other important information will be listed on our school website under the 21st Century Community Learning Center. The instructional program will consist of daily homework assistance along with daily intervention/tutoring. Students will review and practice concepts, study for quizzes and tests, and
demonstrate mastery. We will continue to use Study Island, IXL, and PowerAssessment to gather data so that teachers can provide meaningful intervention and remediation. The anticipated start date is Monday September 21, 2020. Your child may start attending the program as soon as he/she receives an acceptance letter. If the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) activities have to be cancelled for any reason, you will be notified in advance, unless the cancellation is the result of an unforeseen emergency. All announcements will be sent via instant alert so please make sure your contact information is up-to-date in PowerSchool. Please retain this page for your records,
but return the registration form to the main office. You also have the opportunity to complete
registration online.
