Surry County Public Schools celebrates its October ABCD Award winners: Adrian Taylor, Chenita Elliott, and Kianni Johnson. A blue-and-gold congratulatory banner features three photographs of the honorees receiving their awards, surrounded by decorative gold stars, ribbons, and sparkling accents.

This month, we are proud to recognize three outstanding members of our Cougar family who wear multiple hats and go above and beyond to support our students, schools, and community. Their dedication, flexibility, and willingness to step up whenever needed demonstrate the true meaning of being a Cougar!

Adrian Taylor serves as the Gifted Coordinator and 8th Grade U.S. History II teacher at Luther Porter Jackson Middle School (LPJ). Through these important roles, Adrian supports students in reaching their academic potential while fostering a love of learning and academic excellence.

Chenita Elliott serves as an instructional assistant at Surry County High School (SCHS), but her dedication extends well beyond the classroom. As a school bus driver, she is also one of the first friendly faces many students see each morning and one of the last they see before heading home. Her commitment helps create a welcoming and supportive environment throughout the school day.

Kianni Johnson serves as an instructional assistant at Surry Elementary School (SES), but when an additional need arose last school year, she stepped up to the plate and took on the responsibilities of a second-grade teacher. Her willingness to embrace new challenges and put students first reflects the dedication and teamwork that make our school division special.

They are truly a blessing to our classrooms and invaluable assets to our students and school community. Each goes above and beyond every day, not because they are asked to, but because they genuinely care about the students they serve and are dedicated to helping them succeed.

They have an exceptional ability to recognize when support is needed and step in without hesitation. Whether assisting students who are struggling, helping classrooms run smoothly, encouraging children who need an extra boost of confidence, or simply lending a helping hand, they consistently demonstrate compassion, dedication, and a willingness to make a difference.

Their kindness, commitment, and unwavering support positively impact the lives of students and staff alike. We are incredibly fortunate to have Mrs. Tylor, Mrs. Elliott, and Ms. Johnson as part of our school community, and we are proud to recognize how they keep STUDENTS FIRST, ALWAYS!
