Interim Reports will be available in the Parent Portal app today, Thursday, September 17, 2026. These reports provide a mid-term update on your child's academic progress. Please review them carefully and feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Parent-Teacher Conferences - Teachers will contact parents directly to set up virtual parent-teacher conferences during the week of September 21 - 25, 2026. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's progress and address any questions or concerns you may have with your child’s teacher(s).
Attendance - Every day matters! Regular attendance helps students stay connected, engaged, and on track for success. We encourage families to continue making daily attendance a priority and to reach out if your child is experiencing challenges that may affect attendance. Together, through connection, collaboration, and communication, we can provide the CARE our Cougars need to succeed!

Pretty Purposed is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring communities to empower young women and girls. Know a girl in 5th grade who could benefit from mentoring, youth led advocacy, and Girls Circles? Apply for the 2026-2027 program year!
The RESET FOR SUCCESS: Wellness Explosion is a FREE community wellness event designed to bring youth, families, schools, faith-based organizations, and community leaders together for a day of connection, education, prevention, and empowerment. The event will be held on Saturday, September 12th in Surry, VA. (Please see the attached flyer for details.)

Dear Parents/Guardians,
The safety and security of our students and staff are a top priority for Surry County Public Schools. We will be implementing a lockdown drill prior to September 22nd to ensure that our school remains a safe place for our students to learn. We are required to have our first lockdown drill within the first 20 days of school and two additional unannounced lockdown drills throughout the school year.
During a lockdown drill, students will remain in the classroom, regular activities will stop, and all doors will be secured. Students will remain inside the classroom until instructed by the safety authority figure to resume activities. Also, all doors will be locked and no one is permitted to enter or leave the classroom and/or the school building for the duration of the drill.
Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are exempt from mandatory participation in lockdown drills during the first 60 days of the school session. Each pre-kindergarten and kindergarten student will participate in the lockdown drills after the first 60 days of school.
We kindly ask that you take the time to speak with your child about the lockdown drill and reinforce its importance. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Our staff has been eagerly preparing for your return, and we are committed to building the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. This year brings meaningful changes designed to strengthen student success and create a school experience where every child feels supported, challenged, and inspired.
One of the most significant updates is our new master schedule, which provides clearer structure, increased instructional time, and more opportunities for targeted support. We are also launching a daily Advisory period, a dedicated time focused on social‑emotional learning, relationship building, wellness, and community. Advisory will help students develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
In addition, students will have expanded access to academic intervention, ensuring that those who need extra support receive it consistently and effectively. We are also excited to offer a variety of clubs and enrichment opportunities, giving students space to explore interests, build leadership skills, and connect with peers.
Our staff is energized and ready to welcome students back into a school environment rooted in care, high expectations, and Junior Cougar pride. We believe deeply in the potential of every child who walks through our doors.

You’re Invited to the 5th Grade Academy Open House!
We are excited to welcome our incoming 5th grade students and their parents and/or guardians to the 5th Grade Academy Open House on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This is more than a traditional open house, it’s an interactive experience designed to help students become familiar with their new school, connect with staff, and begin building relationships before the first day of school. This will be the only opportunity before the first day of school, for 5th grade students to receive a copy of their schedule. Attendance for each 5th grade student and his/her parents is highly recommended to ensure a smooth and seamless transition into middle school. The program will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. Please plan to arrive on time.
Important: Each student must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or another responsible adult throughout the event.
The afternoon will include engaging activities followed by a cookout at 2:00 p.m.

We are excited to share that YMCA will soon be partnering with our school division to provide before and after-school childcare services, with the potential to expand into summer programming for our students. The YMCA is widely recognized for its commitment to youth development, healthy living, and strengthening communities, and we are eager to explore how this partnership can best serve the needs of our families.
To ensure these services are designed with our community in mind, we are asking for your input. Your feedback will help us better understand scheduling needs, areas of interest, affordability considerations, and the level of demand for both school-year and summer childcare options. Due to our Holiday Dance, LPJ will not have tutoring on December 18. Tutoring will resume on January 6 in preparation for semester exams on January 8 and 9. Students will receive semester exam study guides for all classes on Wednesday, December 17.
LPJ WINTER DANCE!!! Students may attend if they have not had any disciplinary infractions from November 21, 2025 through December 12, 2025. Please call the main office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
The National Junior Honor Society is hosting a canned food and non-perishable food drive at LPJ from 12/10/25 until 12/18/25. An additional has been added due to the recent snow days. Thank you in advance for your support!
