Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

On behalf of the Surry County School Board and the entire Surry County Public Schools family, I am excited to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year!

This year, our focus is "Cougars First...Always!" We remain committed to providing every student with a high-quality educational experience that empowers them to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and personally as productive and competitive global citizens. At Surry County Public Schools, we take this responsibility seriously and recognize that our greatest successes occur when schools and families work together. Through meaningful Connection, Collaboration, Communication, and C.A.R.E. (Compassion, Affirmation, Respect, and Empathy), we will continue strengthening relationships that help every Cougar succeed in school and in life.

Over the past several years, our staff has worked diligently to build a positive school culture that supports both academic excellence and positive behavior. Whether in the classroom, cafeteria, hallway, extracurricular activities, or on the school bus, we expect all students to: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready to Learn!

These expectations create schools where every student feels safe, valued, empowered, eager to learn, and confident enough to innovate because they know they can make mistakes without losing their dignity.

Parents and guardians, thank you for your continued partnership, support, and trust. Together, we will provide our children with a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where they can maximize their potential and achieve their dreams.

Thank you for helping us make the 2026-2027 school year one filled with growth, achievement, and Cougar Pride.

Yours in Building Excellence, One Student at a Time,

Dr. Herbert T. Monroe III
Superintendent, Surry County Public Schools
