Dr. Monroe’s Message to the Surry County Public School Employees, Families, and Community!

Welcome Cougars to the 2025–2026 School Year!

It is my plum-pleasing pleasure to serve you with Cougar Pride in Every Stride as the proud Superintendent for Surry Nation. At Surry County Public Schools, our mission is simple but powerful: to create a safe, supportive environment where every student is prepared to thrive in a global society.

This year, we will continue to build on our foundation of Connection, Collaboration, and Communication by adding C.A.R.E.: Compassion, Affirmation, Respect, and Empathy. These values will guide our teaching, learning, and relationships, ensuring that everyone, every day, everywhere feels valued and empowered.

We believe all students can and will learn, and we are committed to preparing every Cougar to graduate 3-E Ready: Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed. With your support, our small but mighty Cougar Nation will continue to uplift, inspire, and transform lives one student, one classroom, one moment at a time. Whether you're a seasoned Cougar or brand new to our family, know that your role matters, your impact is powerful, and your presence is valued.

Parents, guardians, and community partners, thank you for joining us in this important work. Students, we challenge you to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready to Learn. Together, we will make 2025–2026 our best year yet!

Yours in Building Excellence—One Student at a Time,
Herbert T. Monroe, III, Ed.D.
