We have had a great start to the new school year and have enjoyed welcoming students back as they Return to Learn with Excellence! We would like to remind parents that Surry County Public Schools will be closed for the Labor Day Holiday on Friday, August 29th, and Monday, September 1st.

As we begin this academic year, we want to emphasize the vital role that consistent attendance plays in your child's educational success. Regular attendance is not just about being present in the classroom; it's about ensuring that your child doesn't miss out on crucial learning experiences and opportunities to develop important academic skills.

We understand that occasional absences are unavoidable, but we encourage you to prioritize your child's attendance as much as possible. If your child is facing challenges with attendance, please reach out to us. We are here to support you and our connection, collaboration, and communication will ensure the CARE needed for our Cougars to be successful in school and in life!

Hello Parents and Guardians from Surry Elementary School!! We hope that everyone is enjoying their summer break. We wanted to share with you some information on how you can help your child NOT be a casualty of the infamous “Summer Slide,” which is the decline in academic skills and knowledge that students experience during the summer break when school is not in session. This loss can accumulate over the years, potentially creating significant gaps in learning achievement. Pizza Party!! Where: Anna's Pizza and Italian Restaurant 128 Colonial Trail East, Surry VA When: Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM Two slices of pizza and a beverage (limited to the first 100 patrons) This pizza party is for Fathers or father figure and school aged children. Must be a residents of Surry county and there will not be carry outs/to go meals. Pepperoni or cheese pizza is available and there will be door prizes!

Wednesday, May 28 -Thursday, May 29 will be an early dismissal day for students. Parent pick ups will dismiss approx. 11:45 and bus riders will dismiss approx. 12:05. The last day of school will be Thursday, May 29, 2025.

SES will have their annual field day on Friday, May 23, 2025 1) Each grade will have their own color to wear: Prek - Orange K - Red 1st - Purple 2nd - Yellow 3rd - Green 4th - Blue 2) Please make sure your child dresses comfortably and wear your grade designated shirt color. Remember to apply sunscreen and to bring a water bottle and towel.

Surry County Public Schools and Offices will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025 in observation of Memorial Day.

Thursday, May 15, 2025 will be the last day for attendance recovery and Project STARS

PreK Crossing Over Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 9:00AM in the elementary school cafeteria. Please note that the PreK awards will be given out during the crossing over ceremony.

Fourth Grade Crossing Over Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 11:00AM in the elementary school cafeteria. Please note that the Fourth Grade awards will be given out during the crossing over ceremony.

Kindergarten through Grade 3 will have their award ceremonies on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in the Surry Elementary cafeteria. Pre-K and Fourth Grade receive their awards during their crossing over/graduation ceremonies. Kindergarten will be at 9:00 AM First and Second Grade will be at 10:00 AM Third Grade will be at 11:00 AM
