Surry County Public Schools celebrated the start of the 2025–2026 school year on August 11 with a special Superintendent’s Luncheon. Held at Luther Porter Jackson Middle School, the packed event featured Dr. Herbert Monroe highlighting this year’s theme, Cougar CARE. A powerful motivational, educational, and inspirational message was delivered by the keynote speaker, Mr. Jordan Moody, on how all employees can help students “Grow Through What They Go Through” with CARE. Care stands for compassion, affirmation, respect, and empathy. These four core values were established at the summer leadership retreat and will be embedded in everything we do to ensure our students are successful, productive citizens in a highly technical and global society. CARE will be added to connection, collaboration, and communication as a fourth C to strengthen Surry’s mission of building excellence, one student at a time.
The luncheon provided an opportunity for all staff, school board members, and community members to celebrate the success of Surry County Public Schools and the opening of a new school year. It takes a village to not only raise, but also to educate a child. Dr. Monroe would like to thank the entire Cougar Nation, elected officials, faith leaders, and community partners for their engagement and participation in the luncheon. Surry is set for success and looks forward to the best year ever!
Dr. Monroe stated that our connection, collaboration, communication, and care will help to ensure our students are Successful not only in school, but in life!
