Surry County Public Schools Celebrate Full Accreditation and Strong School Performance & Support Framework Results

Surry County Public Schools (SCPS) is proud to share the results of Virginia’s new accountability system, the School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF), released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), with the updated data available on the Viginia School Quality Profiles website.

The new SPSF represents a significant increase in rigor and expectations for schools statewide, with a strong emphasis on ensuring every student reaches mastery. This framework evaluates schools using multiple weighted measures, including student mastery, academic growth, readiness, and graduation indicators, which together determine each school’s Performance Category: Distinguished, On Track, Off Track, or Needs Intensive Support.

All schools within Surry County Public Schools have earned Full Accreditation for the 2025–2026 school year, continuing the division’s longstanding commitment to academic excellence. In addition, Surry County Public Schools excelled in these areas, earning the following designations:

  • Surry Elementary School — On Track, 81.1

  • Luther Porter Jackson Middle School — On Track, 86.9

  • Surry County High School — Distinguished, 96.9

“These results reflect the dedication of our students, the expertise of our teachers, and the unwavering support of our families and community partners,” said Dr. Herbert Monroe, Superintendent of Surry County Public Schools. “We are especially proud that all of our schools continue to be fully accredited while also demonstrating strong performance under the new SPSF model. Our commitment to providing high-quality, engaging, and equitable learning experiences remains at the core of our mission.”

The SPSF designations highlight the division's positive trajectory in academic achievement, student engagement, and postsecondary readiness. Surry County High School’s Distinguished rating places it among the highest-performing schools in the Commonwealth.

School leaders across the division attribute these successful outcomes to collaborative planning, data-driven instruction, and the exceptional efforts and commitment of our students and staff.

Surry County Public Schools will continue implementing initiatives that strengthen teaching and learning, support student growth, and advance overall readiness to maintain momentum and further elevate student outcomes.
