Surry County Public Schools is proud to congratulate the Lady Cougars for capturing the #1 seed going into tournament season. The ladies had an impressive 20-1 regular season, and we look forward to great things to come now and in the future.

Special congratulations go to Dabria Newby, who was named Tri-River Player of the Year, and to Coach Johns, who earned Tri-River Coach of the Year. Dabria Newby, Makayla Drew, and Anaiyah Johns were selected to the Tri-River First Team, while Jazlyn Warren, Londyn Judkins, and Kamaya Summers received Honorable Mention recognition.

There was a very engaging interview with Coach Johns on 757 Sports Talk that highlighted the significance of going from 0-23 to 21-1 in just one season.  The Lady Cougar “180” is the greatest turnaround by any single team in the history of the Tri-River league. What makes this even more amazing is the team make-up of 1-senior, 1-junior, 3-sophomores, 6-freshman, and NO TRANSFERS! With the starting lineup consisting of four freshmen, we look forward to the future of the Lady Cougars.
