On Tuesday night, February 24, 2026, at the School Board meeting, the School Board adopted the 2026–27proposed budget.
The Superintendent’s Proposed 2026–27 needs-based budget includes funds for the following:
Two new teaching positions at Surry Elementary School
A 2–6.37% pay increase, depending on tenure
Absorbing the anticipated 12% health insurance increase
Increases in the electricity, athletic trainer, and special education expenditure lines
There is additional state revenue support of $319,283.00, and full funding will require an additional $554,257.00 from Surry County. We plan to request carryover funds from FY25 to cover the cost of replacing the gym floor and textbook adoption. There is currently $200,000 in the CIP dedicated to replacing the switchgear at the high school. We will also request funding in the CIP for the FY26–27 budget to replace the switchgear at Surry Elementary School (cost TBD).
The proposed budget will be presented to the Surry County Board of Supervisors on March 5, 2026, for funding consideration.
