Surry County Public Schools Announces Interim School Board Member Appointment for Spring Grove/Claremont District
Surry, VA – Surry County Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of a new interim School Board member representing the Spring Grove/Claremont District. The appointment was made during a special-called School Board meeting held at 1:01 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Mr. Wayne D. Gholston was selected by the School Board to serve in the interim role until a permanent representative is elected at the November 4th special election to fill the vacant seat in accordance with applicable regulations. He brings to the role a strong commitment to public education and a vested interest in the success of students, staff, and families within the Spring Grove/Claremont community and all who have scholars attending Surry County Public Schools.
“We are confident that Mr. Gholston will serve our district with dedication and integrity,” said Mrs. Marr-Shears, Chair of the Surry County School Board. “Mr. Gholston’s insight and leadership will be a valued addition to our team as we continue working to provide the best possible educational experience for all students.”
The interim appointment comes following the passing of the beloved and highly respected previous board member for the Spring Grove/Claremont District, Ms. Laura Ruffin. The newly appointed member will begin serving immediately.
